Frankfort Resident Named Deputy Manager

Of Department of Energy Chicago Office

Supervises 230 employees and $4 billion annually

 

Argonne, ILFrankfort resident Roxanne E. Purucker has been appointed Deputy Manager of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Chicago Office.  As part of her promotion, Purucker will also be appointed to the federal government’s Senior Executive Service, effective January 7, 2007. 

 

Ms. Purucker will share responsibility for the management and direction of approximately 230 employees, including scientists, engineers, and management specialists.  As part of the DOE Office of Science’s Integrated Support Center, the Chicago Office provides business, technical, and administrative support to six offices nationwide associated with DOE National Laboratories – including Argonne National Laboratory, Fermi National Acceleratory Laboratory, Ames Laboratory, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Brookhaven National Laboratory, Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory and New Brunswick Laboratory.

 

The Chicago Office is also DOE’s primary contracting agent for more than 2,000 grants to researchers – in every state in the U.S. and several foreign countries – at every major research university and with business and industry.  In total, the Chicago Office spends approximately four billion of the American taxpayer’s dollars annually.

 

Purucker has served as Acting Deputy since May, 2006.  Prior to her appointment she had served as the Manager for the DOE Office of Science’s Ames Site Office since July 2001.  In this capacity she was the senior Federal official responsible for all programmatic, operational, and administrative aspects of the Department’s contract with Iowa State University for the management and operation of Ames Laboratory in Ames, Iowa, involving approximately $30 million in research and development annually. 

 

Before that, she served as Team Leader for Safety and Health/Lead Physical Scientist and Health Protection Specialist at the DOE Argonne Site Office which was responsible for overseeing the management and operating contract with the University of Chicago for Argonne National Laboratory.  Before joining DOE in 1990, she worked in a variety of technical and management capacities for universities and businesses.

 

Ms. Purucker received a Masters of Science degree in Environmental and Occupational Health Science from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1990. 

 

She and her husband Steve live in Frankfort, Illinois with their three children.
